Maintenance of Certification

AAAP is working with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) to assist psychiatrists in Maintenance of Certification activities required by diplomats of the ABPN to maintain certification in General Psychiatry and/or to maintain Added Qualifications in Addiction Psychiatry. We will be developing the required examination that will assist psychiatrists in assessing their strengths and weaknesses in the field of Addiction Psychiatry so that they may direct their course of continuing medical examination. Explanation: For many years, marijuana has been the most widely used of the illicit drugs in the U.S. with the highest number of new users yearly relative to misuse/abuse of other drugs. With the epidemic abuse of prescription pain medications, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported for the first time in 2006 that the number of new misusers of these drugs exceeded that for marijuana.
