Members of AAAP and its affiliated societies, students, faculty, health professionals, clinicians and researchers are all encouraged to participate in the AAAP Annual Meeting by developing symposia. Persons wishing to submit a symposium proposal for the AAAP 2010 meeting should submit a completed proposal form by February 15, 2010.
Symposium (2 hours with 30 minutes for each presenter and 30 minutes for discussion). Individual presentations are usually given more time than for other session formats (30 minutes rather than 20 minutes) but the actual scheduling depends on the needs of the symposium and may be longer or shorter, even a mixture.
Note: There will be designated session chairs for the symposia that will be responsible for contacting the presenters prior to the conference to discuss introductions, the content of the presentations and review their materials (PowerPoint and handouts). At each session, the session chair will begin and end the session on time, introduce the presenter(s) and the session topic, and remind attendees of any logistical information relating to the session.
Each proposal will be reviewed by a minimum of two reviewers who will recommend one of three options: 1) acceptance of the proposal, 2) revision of the proposal, or 3) rejection of the proposal. The reviewers will examine and evaluate proposals in these areas:
- Clear connection between the title of the session and its content (titles should be less than 10 words, compelling to attract an interdisciplinary audience, and align with session content)
- Significance and relevance of the topic for this conference
- Clarity and value of the objectives for the session
- Means of engaging the audience in the session
- Expressed learning outcomes for attendees
The results of the review process will be provided to applicants no later than March 1, 2010. The presenters of all accepted proposals are to give confirmation to the conference chair no later than March 15, 2010 that they will present at the conference in December. Presenters are responsible for their own conference registration fee, travel and lodging.
All presenters are required to provide their PowerPoint slides for the conference materials no later than November 1, 2010. Presenters whose registration fee and PowerPoint slides are not received by November 1, 2010 may be deleted from the conference schedule of sessions and program booklet.
If you have specific programmatic questions or would like to discuss further please contact annualmeeting@aaap.org or call 401-524-3076.
