Addiction Psychiatrist Needed at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (posted 1-25-2010)

The University of Michigan Department Of Psychiatry is seeking a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible addiction psychiatrist for a tenure stream, academic track appointment in its Substance Abuse Section.  Although the position is currently listed at the assistant professor level, applicants at all ranks will be considered.  Candidates with a strong background in either neurobiology of addiction or in clinical trials research are especially encouraged to apply.  Applicants should have a record of peer-reviewed publication and early programmatic research activity that indicates promise for research funding at the national level.  In addition to the research involvement, professional activity will include direct outpatient care with the University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS), the Section's clinical treatment facility, as well as teaching psychiatry residents, medical students, and addiction psychiatry fellows.  This position provides an outstanding research environment for an academic track career with a highly productive and collaborative faculty.  The Section is home to more than a dozen faculty and research scientists.  Its Addiction Research Center is currently the base for over 20 projects focused on the etiology, course, treatment, and outcome of substance abuse disorders; moreover, substance abuse research accounts for more than 40 percent of the department's total research activity.  The Section has two NIH post-doctoral/post-residency research training programs, an ACGME certified Addiction Psychiatry Training program, and exceptionally strong collaborative relationships both within the Medical School and with other segments the University community.   The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity employer.

Medical Clinical Title Faculty Position (posted 1-15-2010)

The Center on Drug and Alcohol Research and the Department of Behavioral Science in the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky, is seeking an Assistant- or Associate-level Research Professor to work on substance abuse projects with an emphasis on pharmacotherapy and intervention research.  This individual would join a productive and collaborative research team conducting both inpatient and outpatient clinical studies related to substance abuse and its treatment. 

The incumbent's responsibilities would include participatingin all aspects of protocol development and implementation, development of extramural support and provision of medical supervision for studies.  It is expected that this individual will also provide some clinical service as appropriate, but the majority of effort would be related to research activities.  The position is in the non-tenured clinical title series with an appointment in the Department of Behavioral Science, and candidates should qualify for faculty appointment. Adjunct appointment in an appropriate clinical department will be made with consideration of the candidate's specialty area (e.g., Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, etc).

University of Wisconsin Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship (posted 1-26-10)

Fellowships: Addiction Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine/Research at the University of Cincinnati and VA Medical Center (posted 9-17-09)

The Addiction Sciences Division offers two addiction-specialty fellowship training programs. One is a 1-year ACGME-accredited Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship that prepares the candidate for Added Qualifications in Addiction Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; the other is a 2-year VA Advanced Fellowship in Addiction Research that is open to physicians (research or clinical) in psychiatry, internal medicine, family practice, or neurology, and prepares the candidate for Board Certification by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.  

Fellows intermingle in their shared clinical and didactic experiences and are exposed to a rich assortment of clinical environments that include rotations in a nationally-recognized VA Clinical Program of Excellence in Substance Use Disorders providing greater than 10 addiction sub-specialty clinics/wards.  Fellows also rotate in non-VA settings for rotations dealing with topics relating to addiction and women's issues, school-based prevention, women and family, pregnancy, and methadone.  Geriatric and addiction-specific psychotherapy training is provided.  Training in how to administer addiction-specialty service lines is also highlighted.  Integrated with 1 of 2 VA Tobacco Cessation Clinical Resource Centers in the country as well as a robust nicotine research center, nicotine specialty training is also robust.  Research opportunities exist in several NIH-funded addiction research centers, including the headquarters for 10 states within NIDA's national Clinical Trials Network.  Active research protocols include both behavioral and pharmacotherapy research trials with extremely high recruitment rates.  Support includes an experienced Center for Imaging Research featuring 4T MRI.

Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and Menninger Clinic (posted 6-26-09)

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas is offering fellowship positions in Addiction Psychiatry accredited by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  These positions are paid by the Veterans Administration thereby making psychiatrists with J1 or other visas also eligible for participation in this one year (PGY5-6) training program.
